Corbett National Park is a well-known and very famous national park in India, you can enjoy many types of safari and natural activities here. You can also see many varieties of wild animals and birds here.

This is the very first national park in India and was established under British rule in 1936. First, it was named Haily National park on a British governor's name. Then it was renamed the Corbett national park after the hunter Jim Corbett who was also a famous naturalist.

This forest covers a total of 520.8 sq km area which include hills, river belts, grasslands, and dense forest. It has an elevation from 1300 ft to 4000 ft. Corbett covers the maximum part of forest i.e. 3/4th of total area which means around 74% of forest and 26% of grassland.

Jeep safari

Jeep safari price for Indian nationals is INR 4500 per jeep in which a maximum of 6 persons are allowed in a single visit and 2 children aged between 5 years to 12 are allowed with the people. whereas the price for foreign visitors is INR 7000 per jeep. A naturalist or guide is mandatory with each jeep as per the corbett safari norms.

Different safari zones and their entry gate in Corbett National Park

Dhikala zone: Dhangari Gate

You can enter this zone from the Dhangari gate of the national park. This gate is about 22 km away from Ramnagar city. After reaching Ramnagar city You can come to this gate by local taxis or by your own vehicle. We also provide pick and drop services from any point in the city on extra charges.

As we have already mentioned above, visitors can enjoy only a canter safari in this zone. But if you stay in a forest rest house in this zone then you can also do an elephant safari here in the Dhikala zone. Dhikala forest lodge is the forest rest house for the visitor who stays at night in this zone.

Lohachaur & Sonanandi Zone: Durga Devi Gate

This entry gate in Corbett park is about 30 km away from Ramnagar city. You can reach here by local taxi services or by own vehicle after reaching the Ramnagar city. You can enjoy the safari in the Lohachaur zone through this gate. This gate opens from October 1st to 30th June every year and remains closed in monsoon time.

You can enter through this gate to the sonanadi zone in Corbett forest where you can enjoy day jeep safari and elephant safari. Visitors can also enter from the Kalagarh Gate to enter this safari zone.

Bijrani Zone: Aamdanda Gate

This is the nearest zone from Ramnagar city. The entry gate for this zone is the Aamdanda gate and this is just 2 km away from the city. Day safari can be enjoyed inside this zone. For night stay visitors have to book for Bijrani forest rest house. This gate is also open from October 1st to 30th June every year and remains closed in the rainy season.

Jhirna Zone: Dhela Gate

Jhirna Zone is the most famous tourist attraction to the visitors because this is the only gate in Corbett which open throughout the year. Dhela Gate is the entry point to this zone and is about 18 km away from the city. While safari in this zone you can see wild animals like wild bears, wild elephants, sambhar, etc. Wild bears are the main attraction of this zone along with the tigers. Jhirna FRH is the stay point for the visitor who books the night stay in this zone.

Garjiya Zone

This zone is about 15 km away from Ramnagar city. Garijiya Tourism Zone in Corbett national park is officially announced and open in 2020 by the CTR officials. This zone is open to reduce the pressure of safari in other zones and to increase the safari strength in Corbett park. After opening safari from this zone now a total of 60 jeeps can go for the safari in a single time.


Pakhro is the new gate to the Corbett National Park to the Pakhro and Sonanadi range inside the park. This gate is near Kotdwar city, about 25 km away, and takes 30 minutes to drive from Kotdwar. This is the best suitable gate for visitors who come from Haridwar and Dehradun sides. The nearest airport is Jolly Grant airport in Dehradun. The nearest railway station is Kotdwar railway station and about 18 km away from this entry gate. Before opening this gate, visitors have to come to Ramnagar first to visit the forest.

Things to remember while going to jungle safari

After sunset, entry into the forest areas is strictly prohibited.

As the entire jungle area is restricted and fully operated by Corbett officials. Therefore for some reason, safari or night stay booking can be canceled anytime without any prior notice. No alcoholic drinks are allowed in the forest area. Visitors are requested to carry a bag for their food waste and other waste.

Do not give food or any other things to animals inside the park.

Do not make noise or shout inside the park.

Formalities for Jeep Safari Booking (Booking Procedure)

To book a safari in Corbett national park you need to provide and fulfill the following details.
You need to book jungle safari in advance, usually 30 days before your visit so that we can confirm and book your desired zone of visit.
Foreign visitors need to book 90 days before arrival. Also, passport details are mandatory for booking and reservations.
Please mention in detail the date of the safari and timing (morning/evening).
Photo identity card number is required for booking, i.e. aadhar card, voter id, driving license, passport, etc (PAN card will not be acceptable).
Guest full name, age, gender, nationality of each visitor mentioned the same as on id card which they provide while booking for the safari or night stay with a confirmation amount.
Also, note that you must carry the same id card from which you have booked your safari.
You need to pay a safari fee in advance. E permits are not refundable once the booking is confirmed.

Canter Safar

Canter safari is one of the best ways to feel and explore nature in the group. You visit the forest in a 16 seater canter.

Prices for canter safari are INR 1700 per person for Indian nationals and INR 2800 for foreign visitors.

Morning timing for canter safari is 6 AM to 11:30 AM and 12:00 PM to 5:30 PM in the evening.
